Doll Shopping Cart Questions

Doll Shopping Cart
The truck verses the baby doll?

Have you given your child the option? Today while shopping I saw these cute little baby dolls that cry and laugh…my son pointed at them and when I passed it he hugged it tight so I put it in the cart. Then passing the truck section, he pointed at these and thankfully they were on clearance sale so I bought him a couple.
When we got home I passed him the dolly and a truck just to see what he’d do. He hugged the doll and gave her a kiss, then threw her over the stair gate and took the truck and kept himself busy for about 45 minutes. lol
I guess we know what he prefers.

Have you tried both options with your child? What did they prefer?

Our boy plays with dolls and wears nail polish sometimes, he also plays with trucks and footballs and ”boy stuff” too and had long hair til recently, which he wants to grow back. We want him to be a free spirit and do the activities in life that make him happy. My wife and I dont care for rigid gender roles, we both cook and clean, etc, and ours kids will too regardless of gender.

By the way dolls/trucks is a cultural thing, Ive been in different countries and its not the same, for example in vietnam when I was there the boys chose the pink and purple shirts first before the other colors because they’d simply never been taught ”blue is for boys”, it’s all about how a child is raised and what they are told. Also in Vietnam the girls there picked up bugs and played with them with no qualms, but girls in america usually run yelling at the first sign of a spider, because they are raised seeing other women doing so.

Shopping For Christmas Gifts For Kids Has Never Been Easier

Children really are given importance during the holidays since they are the ones who can really feel the cheer with very little things. As you’re shopping in your favorite department store you tend to zip around the store looking for that perfect gift for your child, one that nobody else has thought of already.  Let’s face it, you don’t want your kids to end up with two basketballs or two talking Buzz Lightyear’s right? Here are some guidelines on what kind of Christmas gifts for kids are best given to your lovely little ones.

1. Buy a gift that is age appropriate.

There are hundreds of toys in the department store or listed online. Before you just pick up the first cute toy that you see, be sure that you check out the age recommendations before putting it in your shopping cart. Be sure to read all of the notes one the box because sometimes just reading the age level is not enough information for you to make the best decision. For example, you may think that the Calico Critters Townhouse is perfect for your two year old but upon further reading will see that the small pieces create a choking hazard for smaller children.

2. You can never go wrong with educational toys.

Educational toys are just as much fun as everything else and buying one for the holidays is a great way to feel like you’re spending your money in a way that will help further develop your child’s development. There are dozens of educational choices for your children that will not just hone their mental skills but also help them socialize with other children. One example is the Leapster Learning Game System that is a little kiddie laptop that has a great variety of traditional learning skills along with some board games like the very popular Snakes and Ladders that can help your child learn more social skills.

3. Buy girls toys for the girls and boys toys for the boys.

This is very understandable, of course. Little girls love dolls like the Barbie Dolls (and there are some great one this year!).  The Lady Bird 7-in-1 baby sets are also great and the Furreal toys have some great walking animals that are also incredibly popular with the girls. Boys have their line of options as well like Razor’s Rip Rider, Transformers or Bakugan Action Figures and so much more. Still, there are toys which can be enjoyed by both girls and boys so be on the lookout for these as well.

4. It never hurts to review the Top Toys for Christmas.

It’s always great to know what’s hot for the year because you can be sure that you kids already know what these toys are and have them on their lists already.  You can find out what’s hot by just spending a little bit of time on the web looking at blogs that report current trends. This 2010, some of the top choices include musical toy Sing a Ma Jigs, the game console PlayStation Move, games Minotaurus, remote controlled toys like Bigfoot the Monster and the ageless doll Barbie Princess.

5. It really is the thought that counts.

Whatever you finally choose to buy, just remember that what really counts at Christmas is the thought that you put into your gift. It could be one of the best toys listed in critics’ notes, the most expensive, the cheapest or the one actually written on your children’s wish list – it doesn’t matter, as long as you have given them something whether they were nice or slightly on the naughty side. They’ll love this year’s top Christmas Gifts For Kids.
